DBT Essentials is a 3-day course from the Association for Psychological Therapies (APT), a leading provider of accredited Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) training courses in the UK and Ireland.
It gives you a thorough coverage of the basics in DBT, it is APT-accredited, and has access to important resources for you to use post-course. It can be your introduction to DBT or as the first step to establishing a full DBT service. The course is available in the following formats and can also be completed as part of the Extended Training DBT course and The APT Diploma in Psychological Therapies:
Onsite - we bring the training to you for a group of up to 15 people. Or, if you have an APT accredited tutor they can deliver the training in-house for half the standard fee.
Webinar - learn from home or workplace, webinars are live and pleasantly interactive.
Open - you come to us in Leicester (about an hour by train from London, Birmingham, and Sheffield).
Online - study at your own pace, receiving the same credits as live training.
DBT brings together a series of skills and techniques which are powerful and well-chosen ones, for working with personality disorder and other areas. Many people want to familiarise themselves with these skills without necessarily becoming a DBT therapist exclusively, and this 3-day course is for you if you are one of those people as well as if you are thinking of taking the first step in becoming a DBT therapist or establishing a DBT service. As well as covering the ‘overall concept of DBT’, it covers its ‘essential elements’ such as how to set up skills development groups, the inter-relation between the groups and the 1:1 sessions, how to maximise generalistion of the skills learned into real life, how therapists gain support for themselves, how fidelity to the model is maintained, and more.
People who attend our DBT training normally fall into one of two categories:
1. Professionals who see patients in 1:1 treatment settings, have a significant degree of clinical skill, and wish to add DBT techniques to their repertoire.
2. 'Whole teams' (either in inpatient or community settings) seeking to develop a common approach to DBT and a full DBT Service.
The professional affiliations of people attending our DBT training include: mental health/psychiatric nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, probation officers and others.
Their areas of work include: Adult Mental Health, Children and Adolescents, Older People, Substance Misuse, Forensic, Learning Disability, and Brain Injury.
Relentless problem solving.
Emotion-regulation exercise, especially including the focus on biological elements such as: sleep, exercise, illnesses, circadian rhythm.
Interpersonal effectiveness exercise. To be effective interpersonally proves to be a key skill, and the research evidence is impressive on this. It is therefore one of the four skills taught in DBT, addressing frequent interpersonal issues.
Walking the Middle Path
Other important therapist-skills in DBT.
All delegates are registered at APT as having attended the course, and receive a certificate to acknowledge their attendance, registration, and APT-Accreditation at the appropriate level. As a bona fide APT event, this course automatically has accreditation from The Association for Psychological Therapies. This accreditation is given weight by the fact of over 100,000 professionals having attended APT training.
Upon completion of the 3-day course, delegates will receive Level 1 APT Accreditation in DBT.
