This 3-day ADHD course is from the Association for Psychological Therapies (APT), a leading provider of training for professionals working in mental health and related areas in the UK and Ireland.
It is the only ADHD training that gives you access to APT’s relevant downloadable resources for use post-course and has APT-accreditation, probably the most meaningful accreditation available to mental health professionals. The course is available for teams and individuals and can be attended face-to-face or online. It can also be completed as part of (a) the Extended Training in CBT course, (b) The APT Diploma for working in Child & Adolescent Mental Health, or (c) The APT Diploma in Working with common mental health diagnoses.
ADHD has traditionally been viewed as a condition of childhood and adolescence, but it is increasingly recognised that its effects often persist well into adulthood and even later life. While hyperactivity may diminish with age, difficulties with attention and concentration often remain prominent. Rarely does ADHD appear in adulthood without having been present earlier in life — though many adults may not have been diagnosed in childhood, simply because the diagnosis was less commonly made at the time. This course therefore takes a lifespan perspective, examining ADHD in both young people and adults.
For parents and caregivers, a diagnosis of ADHD in a child or adolescent can bring relief, confusion, or even conflict — especially when strong views are held about whether medication or psychosocial interventions are more effective, or more acceptable. Adults with ADHD face a different, though often equally challenging, set of difficulties. In both age groups, the condition can have wide-ranging impacts not only on the individual but also on those around them.
This course provides a comprehensive understanding of ADHD and the problems it can cause. Most importantly, it focuses on what matters most for practitioners: how to assess the difficulties involved, formulate a helpful understanding of them, and implement effective psychosocial interventions. It is not a diagnostic qualification — it is a practical, skills-based course designed to support professionals in making a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by ADHD.
You will be registered as having attended the course, thereby gaining APT's Level 1 accreditation, and receive a certificate to this effect. The accreditation gives you access to online resources associated with the course and access to the online exam if you wish to uprate your APT accreditation to Level 2.
Your registration lasts indefinitely, whilst your accreditation lasts for 3 years from the date of completion and is renewable.
APT accreditation is probably the most relevant and transparent accreditation available to mental health professionals, see APT accreditation for full details.
Although the CBT Plus, with ADHD course addresses assessment it is intended for people working to help those with a diagnosis of ADHD rather than qualifying people to make a formal assessment.
