The APT Diploma for working in Secure Psychiatric and Forensic Settings.
The APT Diploma for Working in Secure Psychiatric and Forensic Settings provides 90 hours (or more) of focused training and is from the Association for Psychological Therapies (APT), a leading provider of training for professionals working in mental health and related areas in the UK and Ireland.
It is the only Secure Psychiatric and Forensic Settings Diploma that is APT-accredited and also gives you access to APT’s relevant downloadable resources for use post-course. The course is available for teams and individuals and can be attended face-to-face or online.
Executive Summary:
The APT Diploma for Working in Secure Psychiatric and Forensic Settings provides 90 hours (or more) of training, leading to Level 4 APT accreditation. Attend the diploma as an individual or we can bring the training to you for a fixed fee, to ensure you get a supportive group addressing the same material.
The diploma comprises at least 15 days of training made up by attending your chosen courses from the list below (e.g. five 3-day courses). If you are part of a team then your team/organisation chooses the courses and you then all attend the same ones:

- Teaching the Life Skills at the heart of DBT™ (3-days) ^
- CBT for Working with Offenders (3-days) ^
- ACT Essentials (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) (3-days) ^ *
- SFT Essentials (Solution Focused Therapy) (3-days) ^ *
- Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) (3-days) ^
- The DICES® System for Risk Assessment and Management (3-days) *
- CBT Plus, for Suicide Prevention (3-days) *
- CBT Plus, for Anger and Violence (3-days)
- The ADDRESS® Course for working Personality Disorder (3-days) ^
- Realising Recovery and Social Inclusion (3-days)
- Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) (3-days) ^ *
- 10-minute CBT: The BITS™ Course (2-days) ^
Key:
* Course also available for individuals and whole teams to attend 'online anytime'.

To be awarded the diploma, you must also complete an online exam after each course.
If you have already attended one or more of these courses in the last 2 years, then you have an exemption for that subject(s), you don't need to attend the same course again. If you have already attended the equivalent of one or more of these courses from another training-provider in the last 2 years, then again you have an exemption for that subject(s), although you do need to submit evidence of the training and pay a reading fee for APT assessing it.
Please note that the diploma should be completed in not more than 2 years from the date you undertake the first course.
The Diploma can also be awarded by completing the individual courses separately, across 2 years
What you receive as a result of attending the training:
You will be registered as having attended the course, thereby gaining APT's Diploma for Working in Secure Psychiatric and Forensic Settings, and receive a certificate to this effect and Level 4 accreditation which gains you access to the resources associated with the course.
Your registration lasts indefinitely, and your accreditation to use the resources lasts for 3 years and is renewable by attending a Masterclass top-up day or submitting evidence of continued practice, and your reflections on that practice (to the required level).
