Older People and Depression: Key Knowledge and Skills for Effective Biopsychosocial Intervention is an APT-Accredited 3-day course from one of the UK's leading providers of mental health training courses. We bring the training to your own organisation, for maximum cost effectiveness, and up to 15 people can attend. (2-day version and refresher courses are also available.)
It is true, as William Davies says, that “Many older people are depressed, and many older people have a lot to be depressed about”. It would be surprising if it were otherwise, what with longstanding friends dying, being physically unable to do things they previously enjoyed doing, having pains and other biological processes disturbing them, having less future to look forward to, and cognitive processes sometimes not being as acute as they once were. On the other hand, it is not true that all older people are depressed, and, for those who are, we can often make some significantly helpful interventions.
This course is therefore about (a) recognising depression in older people, (b) being aware of any risks this presents, and mostly (c) intervening in a constructive and helpful way. Major teaching methods are: lecture, case studies, small group exercises, and large group discussions.
People who attend this course normally fall into one of two categories:
1. Professionals who spend the majority of their time working with older people.
2. Professionals who, while older people may not be their primary speciality, nevertheless need to get 'up to speed' on the subject.
The professional affiliations of people suitable to attend this course include: mental health/psychiatric nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, and others.
You will be registered as having attended the course, thereby gaining APT's Level 1 accreditation, and receive a certificate to this effect. The accreditation gives you access to online resources associated with the course and access to the online exam if you wish to uprate your APT accreditation to Level 2.
Your registration lasts indefinitely, and your accreditation lasts for 3 years and is renewable by sitting an online refresher which also upgrades your accreditation to APT Level 2 if you are successful in the associated online exam.
Your accreditation is given value by the fact of over 100,000 people having attended APT training. See APT accreditation for full details.
Option 1: Bring the course to your organisation:
We bring this course to your own organisation a train a group of 6-15 people for a fixed, all-inclusive fee of £4,495 plus VAT for the 3-day course, or £3,330 plus VAT for the 2-day version.
To book, call (UK) 0116 241 8331, or click the button:
Option 2: Live webinar:
This course can be provided as a live webinar for groups. A webinar typically takes slightly less time than the live course on which it is based (because of less group discussion and group exercises) but they are live and pleasingly interactive.
Delegates can be anywhere that is conducive to concentrating, all together or separate, so long as they have access to a computer with a good internet connection.
Webinars from the APT are the only ones that automatically include registration and certification, APT-accreditation and access to any post-course resources.
Option 3: 'Train the Trainer':
If you or a colleague are a senior professional (e.g. consultant psychologist) and have a talent for communication and teaching, then you are welcome to apply to become an APT-accredited tutor. You could then tutor the course - or your chosen modules from it - in your own organisation, under license.
This is not only a highly appropriate use of senior professionals, but it also saves your organisation the tutor-component of the fee (around 50%) each time you run it or your chosen modules.
