The RAID® Masterclass. The positive approach to working with disturbed and challenging behaviour.
'The RAID® Masterclass' is a 3-day course from the Association for Psychological Therapies (APT), a leading provider of training for professionals working in mental health and related areas in the UK and Ireland.
It is the only Masterclass training in Challenging Behaviour that is APT-accredited and also gives you access to APT’s relevant downloadable resources for use post-course. The course is available for teams/organisations and can be attended face-to-face or online.
Executive Summary:
This is a course for people who have at least 6 months practice subsequent to receiving Level 3 APT-Accreditation (often much more) in the RAID® approach.
In lectures, the masterclass provides more depth on some of the topics in the original course but is mainly focused on developing skill, based around the following components: listening to and making case presentations, watching selected videos, role-play/real-play where you interview others and they interview you, and establishing a stable system for support and development for yourself in RAIDing post course. The result is that you enhance your skill, insight and knowledge. Successful completion also gains you APT's Level 4 accreditation in RAIDing.
Who should attend?
People who attend this course normally fall into one of two categories:
1. Professionals who lead a team of colleagues using the RAID® approach, and want to enhance their own knowledge and insight, in order to supervise or guide others.
2. 'Whole teams' (either in inpatient or community settings) seeking to develop a unified high level of proficiency in working with extremely challenging behaviour.
The professional affiliations of people attending this course include: mental health/psychiatric nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, probation officers and others working in a variety of settings including: Forensic and Secure settings, Adult Mental Health, and Children & Adolescents.
What this course will do for you:
- You will review your work using RAID® so far and consider how you would like to develop this in the future.
- You will consider challenges you have faced working with the RAID® model.
- You will review strategies that are working well and look to build a template of success.
- You will discuss complex cases and problem solve with an experienced RAID® clinician.
- You will prepare and present your own case presentation, choosing issues you would like to consider.
- You will build your own feelings of self-efficacy and confidence using the RAID® model.
- You will add to your repertoire of RAID® skills and practice new and familiar techniques in a supportive learning environment.
- You will participate in group supervision and consider issues raised by peers.
- You will review your own practice and ensure you are sticking to the ‘RAID® model’ as far as you are aiming to do. You will look at ensuring your practice is sustainable and supported.
- You will have the chance to discuss best practice and innovative methods of using RAID®.
- You will gain APT’s RAID® level 4 accreditation (assuming you have the level 3 accreditation and 6 months’ experience working with RAID® necessary to attend this masterclass).
- You will become eligible to work to submit a project for level 5 accreditation if it meets the requirements.

You could then tutor the course - or your chosen modules from it - in your own organisation, under license. This is not only a highly appropriate use of senior professionals, but it also saves your organisation the tutor-component of the fee each time you run it or your chosen modules (50% of the 'Online Live and Exclusive' fee, regardless of whether the course is held Face-to-Face or Online).
