De-escalation training is a key concept for many professionals, and The ABC Course™ has long been a leading UK example. It is an APT-Accredited 2-day course from one of the UK's foremost providers of mental health training. We bring the training to your own organisation, for maximum cost-effectiveness, and up to 15 people can attend. (1-day version also available.)
Violence and aggression are extremely unpleasant and worrying for most people. We therefore want to feel able to deal with it if the need arises. Moreover most employers now realise their responsibility in equipping their workforce with appropriate training.
The problem arises in just how to deal with it. Naturally most people don't want to 'meet fire with fire' - to become aggressive and violent themselves. The need is therefore for non physical techniques that are powerful and effective. It is to meet that need that this course was developed. Since its inception, tens of thousands of professionals have attended, either directly through APT or indirectly.
Everybody who works with people who may be disturbed, distressed or aggressive, including those who have exhibited extreme aggression in the past.
A proper understanding of aggression and violence.
If you can understand what causes aggression and violence you are half way to overcoming it.
Knowing what to do about it.
The person who starts with the right attitude, avoids the traps in body language and also knows what to say, can deal with most aggressive situations.
If all else fails.
No matter how bad things are, there is always a best option.
Even in a dire situation there are lots of ideas on (a) escape tactics, (b) calling for help, (c) what to do if you are attacked and (d) what to do if someone else is being attacked.
In each case there is a 'menu' to choose from and it is usually a case of choosing the right item from the menu. Just as with a real menu, there is no item that is right every time. You need to know how to judge.
Prevention is better than cure: Risk Assessment.
Afterwards, the risk is obvious. It needs to be just as obvious before the event.
You will be registered as having attended the course, thereby gaining APT's Level 1 accreditation, and receive a certificate to this effect. The accreditation gives you access to online resources associated with the course and access to the online exam if you wish to uprate your APT accreditation to Level 2.
Your registration lasts indefinitely, and your accreditation lasts for 3 years and is renewable by sitting an online refresher which also upgrades your accreditation to APT Level 2 if you are successful in the associated online exam.
Your accreditation is given value by the fact of over 100,000 people having attended APT training. See APT accreditation for full details.
Option 1: Online Live and Exclusive course (for teams and organisations):
Online Live Courses typically take slightly less time than the face-to-face course on which it is based (because of less group discussion and group exercises) but they are live and pleasingly interactive. Click here to view prices.
Delegates can be anywhere that is conducive to concentrating, all together or separate, so long as they have access to a computer with a good internet connection. And as a manager, you have ‘guaranteed completion’: you only pay for delegates who successfully complete (minimum 15).
Option 2: Bring the course to your organisation:
We bring this course to your own organisation a train a group of 6-15 people for a fixed, all-inclusive fee of £3,330 plus VAT for the 2-day course, or £1,795 plus VAT for the 1-day version.
To book, call (UK) 0116 241 8331, or click the button:
Option 3: 'Train the Trainer':
If you or a colleague are a senior professional (e.g. consultant psychologist) and have a talent for communication and teaching, then you are welcome to apply to become an APT-accredited tutor. You could then tutor the course - or your chosen modules from it - in your own organisation, under license.
This is not only a highly appropriate use of senior professionals, but it also saves your organisation the tutor-component of the fee (around 50%) each time you run it or your chosen modules.

Average Relevance rating: 94%

APT prides itself on the feedback we receive about our courses. Below are just some of the great comments The ABC Course™ has received.
“This course has helped me feel more in control of aggressive situations and helped me to tackle them. I would advise anyone dealing with the public and young people to take this course.”
“This course rates as one of the best I have attended. It was made so much better by the fact that the tutor is a working practitioner with a wealth of experience in his field and could easily relate theory to practice."
