What does RAID® stand for in mental health?
The RAID® acronym is a registered trademark owned by the Association for Psychological Therapies, and stands for "Reinforce Appropriate, Implode Disruptive" (behaviour). The acronym summarises a three day course that describes an extremely positive approach to working with very challenging behaviour. The approach might best be summed up as follows:
You ignore difficult and disruptive behaviour as far as safety and ethics allow and concentrate instead on helping the person develop appropriate and adaptive behaviour which gradually overwhelms and displaces the difficult and disruptive.
