Mental Health Awareness for Teachers

Mental Health Awareness for those working with Primary School-Aged Children.

A 2-day Course (also available as individual days).

Children’s mental health is a serious area of concern – around 10% of children are now reported to have a diagnosable mental health condition and of these, most report delays in accessing appropriate help.

The course is split into two parts, echoing the World Health Organisation’s definition of health as ‘complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity’.

Day One is about having your school set up so that it naturally generates good mental health and wellbeing. Day Two is to help you spot people who are having problems, and signpost your best course of action. You can attend either or both days.

DBT Essentials

DBT Essentials (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy).

A 3-day course.

Instruction in the key components of DBT for those who want to add them to their repertoire without necessarily becoming 'a DBT therapist', and for those thinking of taking the first step in becoming a specialised DBT therapist.

Many people want to familiarise themselves with these skills without necessarily becoming a DBT therapist exclusively, and this 3-day course is for you if you are one of those people as well as if you are thinking of taking the first step in becoming a DBT therapist. As well as covering the 'overall concept of DBT', it covers its 'essential elements', namely the concepts of: Validation; Metaphor; Relentless Problem Solving; and Contingency Management, and the skills of: Mindfulness; Distress Tolerance; Interpersonal Effectiveness; and Emotional Regulation.

The DICES® Risk Assessment and Management System

The DICES® Risk Assessment & Management System.

Available in 3-day, 2-day and 1-day versions.

A cogent system that actually facilitates clinical work, this is one of our most renowned courses. Thousands of UK professionals have already attended it.

With the starting point that excellent risk management involves excellent clinical practice, the DICES® Risk Assessment and Management System shows what is necessary to properly assess and manage risk easily, reliably and to the benefit of all, and this accounts for its staggering popularity.

Part one covers the nature and theory of risk assessment and management: why we do it and what we aim to achieve by it. Part two covers risk assessment specifically: if you don't notice the risk there is no chance you will manage it correctly. Part three covers risk management: there is no virtue in spotting a risk if you are not able to manage it. The end result is that not only do you know about risk assessment and management, you also have the ability and the equipment to do so reliably and well.

The RAID® Course

The RAID® Course: The positive approach to working with disturbed and challenging behaviour.

A 3-day course.

A relentlessly positive approach to working with disturbed and challenging behaviour.

The 3-day RAID® course is the UK’s leading positive psychology approach for tackling disturbed and challenging behaviour at source: over 20,000 professionals have attended it. It is a comprehensive approach which teaches staff a philosophy and practice not only to deal with disturbed and challenging behaviour when it occurs, but also to prevent it by tackling it at source. Staff feel pleased to share a unified system and to know what they are doing and why they are doing it, while clients delight in a relentlessly positive and empowering approach. The essence of the RAID® approach is to play down disturbed and challenging behaviour as far as safety allows, and to nurture and develop positive behaviour so that it systematically overwhelms and displaces the disturbed and challenging behaviour.

Mindfulness: Level 1

Teaching Mindfulness in Clinical Practice, Level 1.

A 2-day course.

Mindfulness is a psychological intervention that we dream of: it works both for clients/patients and us, and its effectiveness is demonstrated not just by clinical studies but by the unusual number of people testifying to its benefit. Moreover it is a quick, simple concept with obvious validity and relevance. It fits with the thinking of those who maintain that "To live effectively and well cannot be a complicated thing, so any intervention to help people do so should not itself be complicated”.

PBS Training

Positive Behaviour Support

A 3-day course (2-day version also available)

This new 3-day course meets demands for a thorough, consistent and values-led approach to Positive Behaviour Support.

The course covers the background and rationale for PBS and then looks at understanding an individual’s needs, analysing their behaviour and understanding the role it fulfils. Positive and proactive, the training will empower delegates to develop individual PBS plans aimed at improving their clients’ environment and wellbeing, thus decreasing the likelihood of disturbed behaviour. Using skills and understanding from the course delegates will be able to develop specific client-centred plans, also considering their situation and family / carers.

Given that some incidents will inevitably still occur the course also covers steps to manage a crisis and to continually review and improve the plan.

This is a powerful approach that improves the environment and wellbeing of both clients and staff. This is the only PBS course that is APT accredited and gives access to relevant web-based APT resources after the course.
