Motivational Interviewing Course

Motivational Interviewing and The Stages of Change.

The 3-day course Motivational Interviewing and the Stages of Change provides an organised, systematic and powerful way of helping people to recognise their problems and to do something about them. This is so important for many professionals, whether working with substance misuse, health problems such as obesity, or 'traditional' mental health problems such as depression, anxiety and psychosis.

You can come to us to attend as an individual, or we can bring the training to your own organisation to train a group of 6-15 people for a fixed, all-inclusive fee. Or it can be studied online.

You can attend or commission the three-day course, or just one or two of the days (but we do not offer the three-day course in a condensed version).

It is the only training in Motivational Interviewing that is APT-accredited and also gives you access to APT’s relevant downloadable resources for use post-course.

Executive Summary:

Motivational Interviewing and the Stages of Change provide an organised and systematic way of helping people to recognise their problems and to do something about them.

Prochaska, Norcross and DiClemente describe the Stages of Change through which people progress if they are to change their behaviour or emotional responses. Miller and Rollnick describe Motivational Interviewing techniques which lend themselves superbly to the task of helping clients through those stages.

We believe that a course on Motivational Interviewing is incomplete without proper consideration of the Stages of Change, and vice versa. So this course aims to acquaint participants with both the Stages of Change and Motivational Interviewing techniques and, specifically, to show how Motivational Interviewing techniques apply to moving people through the stages of change.
