Mental Health Awareness training for those working with Primary School-Aged Children from APT, a UK leading provider of training in mental health and related areas. This course is available as a 1-day introduction, suitable for all and as 2-day and 3-day versions covering the material in greater depth. Single days are available as ‘Illness’ or ‘Wellness’ modules.
Courses are available ‘open’ (you come to us) or ‘on-site’ (we come to you for a fixed, all-inclusive fee to train a group of 6-15 people). For flexible arrangements, perhaps for schools linking together or for joined-up multidisciplinary training, please contact the office who would be happy to discuss your needs.
Children’s mental health is a serious area of concern – around 10% of children are now reported to have a diagnosable mental health condition and of these, most report delays in accessing appropriate help. Professionals outside of specialist services are increasingly supporting children they are worried about and wondering what they can do to help.
This Course will improve your knowledge around mental health issues in children and build your confidence in supporting all young people: building their resilience and emotional wellbeing as well as understanding their behaviour, when to be concerned about specific disorders.
The course is suitable for all professionals working with primary school aged children, including: teachers, head teachers and SENCOs (whom it will equip ahead of the proposed compulsory curriculum changes relating to children’s mental health), school nurses, social workers and support workers.
The course is split into two parts, echoing the World Health Organisation’s definition of health as ‘complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity’.
Professionals who regularly work with and interact with children, for example teachers. Professionals who are in a position to influence children’s psychological environment and daily routine, for example head teachers. People to whom young people might confide their concerns in when worried about a friend. People who could notice a change in a child’s behaviour. Professionals from whom children might ask for help. Those who work with children and are increasingly worried about the daily pressures on young people. People who are very ‘aware’ of the mental health issues but are unsure around their role or what they should do.
Part 1: Childhood Mental Disorder – what you need to know and what you can do.
Part 2: Childhood Mental Health – how to build and support the mental health of all.
This course will build on professionals’ knowledge and skills around child-wellbeing and safe-guarding and support those interacting with young people and implementing objectives around mental health.
