APT has different levels of accreditation for tutors, as follows:
................................................................................................................................................................
1. Provisionally Accredited Tutor.
................................................................................................................................................................
To be a provisionally accredited tutor you must have satisfactory references from two specified referees. The references require the referee to (a) award the applicant a mark out of 10 on each of 9 key scales and (b) specify a level of confidence in each of those ratings. Referees are invariably impressed by the ‘clarity’ this necessitates.
As the title of APT implies, most tutors are psychologists, mostly clinical, some counselling, some educational. There are also a small number of nurses, an occupational therapist, and a GP.
As a provisionally accredited tutor, you may:
1. (Subject to the provisions below) run APT courses within your own organization.
Key points:
- Your employer pays APT only half of the standard course price, although what they
receive is identical. You therefore save your employer half the cost of the course
by tutoring it in your work time.
- Enables you to build your way to fully accredited tutor. (This requires an average of
6.x on two evaluation scales completed by the delegates on the courses you run,
over at least 5 courses.)
2. You may be invited by APT to run courses outside your own organization. Key points:
- APT pays you a consultant’s fee for this.
- You are not obliged to accept an invitation to tutor outside your organisation, but
running courses does enable you to build your way to full accreditation. (This
requires an average of 6.x on the evaluation scales, over at least 5 courses.)
- Whether you are invited to tutor outside your organisation depends on (a) the
demand for courses, (b) your average evaluations on courses you have run and
(c) your seniority – how long you have been a tutor for.
................................................................................................................................................................
2. Fully accredited tutor.
................................................................................................................................................................
Fully accredited tutors are reliable in delivering APT courses to an excellent standard, averaging 6.x on both the 7-point feedback scales over at least five courses.
Fully accredited tutors have the same pay scale as tutor, have the same entitlements as tutors, but are by definition eligible to be invited to tutor outside their own organisation.
It is theoretically possible for an accredited tutor to lose accreditation, by slipping below the average of 6.x out of 7, over 5 consecutive courses.
................................................................................................................................................................
For all tiers, there are certain obligations, principally:
...............................................................................................................................................................
1. To maintain the highest standards of teaching and general behaviour while
representing APT.
2. To act as an advocate for APT training in the interests of everyone concerned.
