FAR-LEVASH® – Doing the Basics Well

Important Skills that underpin the most effective interventions.

The aim of the FAR-LEVASH® course is to cover the important skills that underpin the most
effective interventions. So it covers: how to establish and maintain a good professional relationship, how to listen and understand a person in a genuinely empathic way, how to
validate and affirm the person, and how to set homework that is appropriate to the stage
the person is at – and know when to refrain from setting homework.

Brief, Solution-Focused Therapy

Positive, optimistic and powerful interventions with a proper theory base
behind them.

Another of APT’s top courses, this aims to introduce you to the principles of BSFT in a way
that gives you a firm grasp of them and enables you to use them in a safe and helpful way.
You should become at home with the approach which is often seen as a ‘breath of fresh air’
both to client and professional, looking for and finding effective solutions for problems,
rather than being sucked further and further into the problem itself.

CBT: Key Knowledge and Skills

The UK's favourite introduction to this powerful, evidence-based technique.

Now in its latest form this course has introduced Cognitive Therapy to thousands of people
in the UK since 1983. It addresses Cognitive Therapy in a way that you can use after the course.
It covers: the history and meaning of CBT, conceptualising cases in CBT terms, the format of a standard CBT session, and the most important CBT techniques. All in a way that applies it constantly to practical examples.

Motivational Interviewing and The Stages of Change

The powerful system for having people acknowledge and do something
about their problems.

One of APT’s ‘big courses’ this course
aims to introduce you to Miller and Rollnick’s
Motivational Interviewing and Prochaska and DiClemente’s Stages of Change in a
systematic way that you can easily apply. One of our most popular courses, it shows
how to motivate the unmotivated, give everyone a chance to reflect on their situation and
how they want to progress, and help them to achieve and maintain exactly that.

Realising Recovery

Understanding and achieving the vision of recovery and social inclusion
portrayed in the recovery philosophy.

Covering: (1) The history and spirit of the Recovery concept and movement. (2) A clear vision
of what constitutes the Recovery concept. How to change the quality of day-to-day interactions
to alter the person's experience by increasing 'personalisation', choice, and involvement.
Having a risk assessment and management system that is in line with this. Increasing opportunities for building a life 'beyond illness'. Truly believing in the person. ( 3) The 10
essential capabilities to implement the Recovery concept effectively. (4) Measuring and monitoring the changes generated. (5) Developing the system: how to act on the results of
your monitoring to generate a permanent positive feedback loop.
