Working with Dementia and Strokes Acquired brain damage is a potentially severe condition at any age, and especially so for older people. It is therefore vital that professionals know the best interventions. This course examines acquired brain damage in older adults, the effect it can have and what can most usefully be done about it. It therefore covers neuro-anatomy and medical intervention but its prime focus is on psychological treatment methods and, to this end, utilises case studies and practice of the relevant methods. Working with Depression in Older People Some older people really do have a lot to be depressed about, and it is difficult to know how to help. This course shows how. This course covers the psychological treatment of depression in older adults, leaning heavily on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques such as diary keeping and guided discovery, scheduling and de-scheduling, IPT based techniques including how to address bereavement, change in role, isolation and disputes, and biological factors such as lack of it, sleep, diet etc. Overall it aims to produce competence in helping depressed older adults.
