Where to stay
.......................................................................................................................................................................
The Belmont
Within easy walking distance of both the railway station and APT, and probably one of Leicester's 'nicest' hotels, but make sure you ask for a refurbished room! A 3* hotel, it is not unduly extravagant but is more expensive than some others.
Premier Inn
Situated next to the railway station and within easy walking distance of APT, this is Leicester's newest hotel. As you would expect, rooms are comfortable and modern and you can also
benefit from using their free car parking.
The Ibis
Like most Ibis's, this is a bright modern place right next door to the railway station and within walking distance from APT. Car parking is difficult here. Make sure to ask for a room that does not overlook the railway station: the announcements are loud.
The Campanile
Similar 2* quality to the Ibis, the Campanile has the advantage of a large car park. But it is
on Leicester's inner ring
road, and you would probably want to drive to APT rather
than walk it.
The Regency
This is a well kept Victorian house which is now a 3* hotel, has parking and is a pleasant
20 minute walk or a very easy drive, from APT. Good reports from those who stay here and
enjoy its slightly old fashioned atmosphere.

What to do
.......................................................................................................................................................................
Depending on how many people are on the course, and how many are staying, you may
be able to get together with others to do any or all of the following. Some may need light,
dry evenings to make them attractive.
Following a grand 3 billion makeover Leicester city now has a superb Cinema De Lux and theatre Curve along with restaurants nearby each of them. If the day time activity has got you into the habit of sitting down watching and listening, these would be for you.
There are some splendid Italian restaurants. Carluccio's, and Casa Romana are reasonably priced and cheerful, the former is a bright and airy chain, the latter is exactly the reverse - you need to know where it is and it has no exterior windows. It's good though. San Carlo is the up market Italian restaurant in the centre of town.
In terms of Indian restaurants, Leicester is probably better endowed than virtually any city
in Britain. Shimla Pinks and the Tiffin are two excellent examples, both within a couple of minutes walk from APT. Otherwise the Melton Road is worth a trip in its own right, and has numerous Indian restaurants.
The railway station is less
than 5 minutes walk from
APT, and a slow train will take
you
through the glorious Leicestershire countryside to Oakham 12 miles away in Rutland. A picturesque small town, Oakham is good to wander around, has a superb Italian restaurant (Nueve Vita) in the main street, and an excellent real ale pub right next door to the station.
You could omit to get off
the slow train at Oakham,
and continue onto Stamford. One of the
most picturesque towns in England, this is
where many of the 'TV Georgian dramas' are
actually filmed. This is a great town to wander around, full of classy shops by day and pubs
and restaurants by night. Fratelli's is the best Italian, the George is the (too) posh hostelry
that people make their way to from miles around.
Go Karting. At Sixhills, half a dozen miles from Leicester, is an excellent karting track, indoor.
If you are lucky, they may have an open evening when you are in Leicester. It's serious stuff:
only go if this is the kind of thing you like!
At Kibworth, 6 miles straight down the road from APT, lies one of the best clay-pigeon shooting ranges in the country. If you are interested, ask us and we will see what we can do.
Bradgate Park, the areas premier country park, lies 6 miles north-west of Leicester near Newtown Linford. Amongst the natural parkland you will see red and fallow dear and the ruins
of Bradgate House, the birthplace of Lady Jane Grey. You could also visit one of the pubs or restaurants nearby.
